On Monday, January 30, WestJet announced the temporary suspension of non-stop flights between Halifax and Paris, Dublin, Glasgow and London. These seasonal routes will not operate in 2023, and WestJet will evaluate the return of transatlantic service in 2024.
There are a lot of factors that influence where airlines put their aircraft, and this is reflective of a change in WestJet’s strategy.
Fortunately, Air Canada offers year-round daily flights between Halifax and London Heathrow. Non-stop summer seasonal flights will also return this year between Halifax and Frankfurt with Condor and Eurowings Discover, each flying 3 times weekly.
Strong air connectivity between Nova Scotia and Europe is important for residents, businesses and tourism. The Province works closely with Halifax International Airport Authority, and we will support them as they explore other opportunities for non-stop air routes between Europe and our region.
