Tourism Nova Scotia asked for photos from people of their best-kept secret places in the province and thousands of Nova Scotians responded.
In all, about 4,600 came back with shots of their favourite lesser-known places as part of the #NovaScotiaUNLISTED contest.
The two winners of the contest are Angie Turner of Westville, Pictou Co. and Mark Klaamas of Hammonds Plains. The photos will be used to inspire people to visit and travel in the province.
A photo of Melmerby Beach by Ms. Turner was selected for the cover of next year's English Doers and Dreamers Travel Guide, while a photo of Grand Pre National Historic Site by Mr. Klaamas of Hammonds Plains was chosen for the French version.
Both guides are distributed to travellers around the world.
Nova Scotia's accessible seacoast and beaches are big draws for visitors. Ms. Turner's photo presents one of the most visited warm water beaches and gives visitors a sense of the spectacular experience offered at provincial park beaches.
"I am so incredibly humbled that my photo was selected for the cover of the Doers and Dreamers Guide," said Ms. Turner. "I love exploring all the wonderful places in Nova Scotia with my family! We have it all - lots of things to do, great people, and beautiful places to see."

Travellers from Quebec rank visiting historic sites high on their list of things to do. The Grand Pré National Historic Site has deep ties to Acadian and French culture and Mr. Klaamas' photo showcases the site in a unique and compelling way that is sure to interest potential visitors.
"The Doers and Dreamers Guide is one of the primary showcases for the province of Nova Scotia. To have my photograph chosen for the cover is truly an honour," said Mr. Klaamas. "We are one of the few locations with truly dark skies that allow for beautiful night photography.
"I believe this photo tells a story about the rich Acadian history associated with our province. When searching for great locations, the UNESCO World Heritage Site at Grand Pre was an obvious choice."

Each of the winners will receive a $2,000 honorarium and credit in the travel guide.
"We were very impressed by the quality of photos submitted and the range of places and activities they showcased," said Michele Saran, CEO, Tourism Nova Scotia. "This contest was an opportunity for Nova Scotians to do something cool to help promote Nova Scotia as a vacation destination and we thank everyone who participated, especially our deserving winners."
Three other contest participants won Google 3 smartphones through a random draw. Select entries were also promoted through digital advertising in key markets of Ontario and the northeastern United States to showcase the variety of things to do and inspire travellers to book a vacation.
